Harlingen man wanted for Edinburg murder

EDINBURG — A Harlingen man is accused of killing a man and attempting to kill a woman, both from Edinburg.

Arrest warrants were issued yesterday for Sigfredo Ramos, 55, for capital murder and attempted capital murder. As of yesterday, police were searching for him.

Police said Ramos killed a 24-year-old man and tried to kill a 44-year-old woman at a home in Edinburg in the early morning hours yesterday.

The murder and attempted murder occurred at a residence in the 3100 block of Celeste Drive, Edinburg Assistant Police Chief Oscar Trevino said in a statement.

A neighbor who did not wish to be identified said police, who knocked on his door about 6:30 a.m., told him the incident began after a fight broke out.

Ruben Ramirez, another neighbor, said police had also questioned him. They wanted to review his security cameras, but they had been turned off because they interfered with his son’s video game.

“I wish I could’ve seen something,” Ramirez said. “I’m just a family man.”

Trevino said Ramos should be considered armed and dangerous.

As of yesterday, police were not providing any further details on the case.

Ramos is 5-feet, 7-inches tall and weighs about 165 pounds. He has black hair, brown eyes, a goatee and was last seen wearing a dark blue T-shirt, blue jeans and brown work boots.

Anyone with information on his whereabouts is asked to contact the Edinburg Police Department at 956-383-7411 or Edinburg Crime Stoppers at 956-383-TIPS.
