Cause of death probed for man found off jetties

PORT MANSFIELD — Authorities are awaiting an autopsy report in the case of a 21-year-old man who died in a fishing accident.

The man from the Corpus Christi area, whose identify was withheld pending notification of family, was fishing on the jetties Saturday morning when he fell on the rocks, Police Chief David Mayes said yesterday.

“It appears he possibly fell while fishing and fell into the water,” Mays said.

Mayes said a friend tried to give the man cardio respiratory resuscitation.

Justice of the Peace George Solis said the man suffered a gash to the back of the head.

Froth appeared on his mouth, Solis said.

“That suggests he took some water in,” he said.
