Local man gets 40 years for child sex abuse

HARLINGEN — A Harlingen man will be spending the next 40 years in prison for sexually assaulting two young children.

Evan Hye entered a guilty plea this week to charges of continuous sexual abuse of a child and aggravated sexual abuse of a child.

Hye’s victims were between the ages of 3 and 6 and had been abused for two years, according to the Cameron County District Attorney’s Office.

Authorities said investigators were able to obtain a full confession from Hye, who has been jailed since January.

“Due to the severe nature of the offense, (Hye) will serve the entirety of his sentence, day for day, until 2056,” the District Attorney’s Office said in a release.
