REYNOSA — About a dozen bodies have been found incinerated in the last week, according to official and local media reports.
On July 22 and 23 a total of 10 bodies were found in three different sites in the Rio Bravo Gustavo Díaz Ordaz neighborhood located south of Donna across the Rio Grande. According to local newspaper El Mañana, the killings were a series of executions.
On July 22, Mexican federal agents patrolling an area near the Gustavo Díaz Ordaz neighborhood witnessed five men dumping the body of a person they had allegedly kidnapped and killed, according to a news release from El Grupo de Coordination Tamaulipas, a multiagency group led by the state’s Attorney General’s Office.
“When they noticed the presence of the Marines, the alleged delinquents opened fire and tried to escape in a double cab pickup truck and a Mercury Grand Marquis car inciting a pursuit that lasted a few meters,” the release states.
Marines returned fire and as they tried to chase the two vehicles and the assailants crashed the two vehicles, which went up in flames. At least five alleged kidnappers were burned to death inside the vehicles, according to the release.
The following day agents found two burned bodies inside an abandoned warehouse in the Gustavo Díaz Ordaz neighborhood. The bodies were inside a tractor trailer, according to the release.
The latest incident happened Thursday in the Ramon Perez neighborhood when the burned remains of two people were found inside a car that had been abandoned in an empty lot and set on fire, El Mañana reports.
“Yesterday after an anonymous report to the 066 emergency telephone number received by authorities at 1:30 p.m. the remains of two unidentified people were found in the back seat of a car,” read El Mañana’s story Friday.
