LAGUNA VISTA — For the past 20 years, the town has celebrated Independence Day.
Then it was limited to a parade, but in the last six or seven years, town officials have incorporated live music, activities and food vendors to make the event better for town residents.
This Saturday, the celebration will be held at Roloff Park, which is across the street from the bay.
The parade will start at 5:30 p.m. at the fire station located on FM 510.
City Manager Rolando Vela encourages everyone to participate in the public parade.
“Decorate your golf carts, vehicles, boat/trailers, bikes, etc. with red, white and blue. Dress up also in these patriotic colors,” he said.
Participants are encouraged to be at the fire station no later than 5 p.m.
Following the parade, there will be a celebration at Roloff Park from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m.
Hector Guzman and the Allnighters will be performing. There will also be children’s activities and food.
Guests are encouraged to bring blankets and lawn chairs.
There will be no fireworks display.
“A couple of months ago, the town council decided that it would consider including them at next year’s celebration,” Vela said.
“This would allow us to raise the necessary funds in order to purchase the fireworks display. We didn’t want to rush into it this year.”
The food vendors will include water and sodas, turkey legs, pulled pork sandwiches, beans a la charra, brisket sandwiches, nachos, corn in a cup, coffee, tacos and many other tasty treats.
The Boys & Girls Club of Laguna Madre and the Friends of the Library will be having raffles.
