WESLACO – During a traffic stop of a pickup in Willacy County Friday morning, the Texas Department of Public Safety made quite a find.
DPS seized 146 pounds of marijuana.
The driver, Juan Cruz Jr., 39, of Brownsville, was arrested and charged with possession of marijuana.
At about 8:30 a.m., a DPS trooper conducted a traffic stop on a red Chevrolet pickup, which was traveling northbound on U.S. 77 north of Conely Road.
The pickup was being pulled over for a traffic violation. During a search of the vehicle, the trooper subsequently discovered 129 bundles of marijuana, worth more than $886,000.
Cruz was transported to the Willacy County Jail.
