SAN BENITO — Police arrested a man they say led them on a high speed chase.
The incident happened about 2:15 a.m., May 31, when an officer saw a car parked in the middle of the 700 block of South Milam.
Police say the driver identified himself as Rick Elizalde, but when a second officer arrived he identified the driver as 31-year-old Ricardo Rangel.
Officers say when they confronted Rangel about using a false name he drove away speeding, leading police on a chase through several neighborhood streets.
He was arrested on the 300 block of Julian Street.
Police say they found a 9mm pistol and a small bag of cocaine from Rangel’s car.
A background check showed Rangel had a warrant from the Laguna Vista Police Department. His bond was set at $180,000.
