Two women found dead in Rio Grande City

Starr County Sheriff’s deputies are investigating a double-homicide after the bodies of two females were discovered, one of the victims is married to sheriff’s investigator.

Deputies were called out at about 9:30 a.m. Wednesday to a residence near Ebony Court and Farm-To-Market Road 755 after the bodies were discovered, Sheriff’s Office spokesman Maj. Carlos Delgado said.

Delgado would not say who or how they were found.

Rangers with the Texas Department of Public Safety were called to lead the investigation because one of the victims is related to an investigator with the sheriff’s office, according to a source who was not authorized to speak on the ongoing investigation.

“At this point I will not confirm or deny,” Sheriff’s office spokesman Maj. Carlos Delgado said.

The source said the sheriff’s office called for assistance because one of the employees is married to one of the victims.

“We’re not going to give out any information on the details of it just that two women were found and we’re investigating a double-homicide,” Delgado said.

The two women found dead have not been identified by law enforcement officials but just before 1 p.m. Wednesday officials with the Rio Grande City CISD put up a website page that identified Oneida Balderas Garza and Lourdes M. Luna as those who were found dead Wednesday morning.

“Rio Grande City CISD’s hearts are broken today due to the loss of two members of our district’s family. We express our deepest condolences to the families of Oneida Balderas Garza and Lourdes M. Luna. They will be forever missed. We ask for prayers during this difficult time,” the statement reads.
