PHARR — For years, the city manager in Pharr has had one deputy. Now there will be two additional assistant city managers, as Human Resources Director Anali Alanis and City Clerk Hilda Pedraza have been promoted to assistant city manager positions, joining Deputy City Manager Ed Wylie as the senior leadership of the roughly 650 city employees in Pharr, overseen by City Manager Alex Meade.
“These types of leaders are always learning, growing and adapting to a fast-paced and ever-changing environment,” Pharr Mayor Ambrosio “Amos” Hernandez said this week. “Their leadership is the key to our success and sustainability and will keep Pharr moving forward across generations of administrations.”
The various city department directors will report to either Alanis, Pedraza, Wylie or Meade. The reshaping of some of the senior officials in the city is part of an effort to “streamline” the process and “to help us work on bigger picture projects,” Meade said.
This move comes nearly a year after Meade became the chief executive at Pharr City Hall in December 2018, following a stint as president of the Mission Economic Development Corporation.
Alanis holds an associate of business administration and a bachelors of applied technology management from South Texas College, and a master’s degree in public administration from the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley. Pedraza holds an associate’s degree in public administration from South Texas College and is working on her bachelor’s degree in organizational leadership.
Hernandez added: “We are proud of their dedication and passion and cannot wait to see the innovative, collaborative, and forward-thinking service and leadership they will provide in these new capacities alongside our city manager, Alex Meade.”
