HARLINGEN — Art lovers and those looking for an opportunity to explore downtown, get ready.
This last Friday of April, the monthly art night is back.
Local artists use this event every month to showcase their creations and set them up for sale. Ultimately the purpose is to introduce new artists to the community and give them a place to show off their unique work.
“We wanted to support the arts Harlingen has to offer. It is an event night open to all ages, definitely family friendly,” Angel Corsi, lead coordinator and Corsi Guitars owner, said.
“The community effort has been very organic, with the help of business owners the artists get to display their art.”
The monthly event was created by the downtown Harlingen committee in order to encourage residents to use it as fun activity.
Refreshments are offered while galleries open their doors for artists to display their work.
“Every month there is a new artist being showcased. We use it as a premier night, and for the rest of the month their art is displayed at the gallery it premiered at,” Corsi said.
Live music is often featured at various venues and at the outdoor Lozano Plaza stage but not this Friday. Recorded music will be played for attendees to enjoy as they stroll.
For more art to be purchased, the alley called “Art on A St.” will also be selling original work.
This monthly event is done to allow local vendors and businesses to have exposure as well as allow residents to get to enjoy what downtown has to offer.
The monthly night will be having a re-launch in May. It will include new activities such as live demonstrations by artists and proposed activities such as plays and fashion shows.
“We are still figuring out and planning it, but we want to take care of all the arts as a whole,” Corsi said.
“Downtown Harlingen has a vibrant community that supports each other. Many of these events happen because of the merchants supporting them. People will feel and see what the fun is all about.”
