The new satellite images indicate there’s no surface circulation, but strong winds are building up to the north of the system.

Forecasters don’t expect the storm to develop into a significant tropical system, but it does have a 20 percent chance of development.

Heavy rains and gusty winds are forecast all across the central Gulf of Mexico today and will reach parts of Texas and southwest Louisiana coasts on Sunday.

The National Weather Service in Brownsville says there is a chance for rain in the Valley along the shore on Sunday, but otherwise the sun will be out.

As for Monday and the rest of the week the chances of rain increase.

“The coverage of rain will increase. The best chance still look like Tuesday and Wednesday, but it remains uncertain on rain totals or the potential,” said Barry Goldsmith, meteorologist and warning coordinator for the NWS.

The chance for rain is 50 percent on Sunday, increasing to 60 percent on Monday and 70 percent on Tuesday and back to 60 percent on Wednesday.

“Tuesday and Wednesday are the key possible periods for heavy rainfall and maybe some localized flooding,” Goldsmith said.

He said two to three inches of rain is possible for the area.
