Hidalgo County is again asking the Texas Attorney General for an opinion over whether it can withhold releasing documents related to the unfinished courthouse, the contractors tasked with building it, as well as additional contractors hired to uncover construction defects.
Hidalgo County has claimed the company hired to build the new courthouse, which has seen numerous setbacks toward its completion, has “essentially stopped working” on the project.
As uncertainty lingers over when the new Hidalgo County courthouse will open, the county is remaining largely mum over the specific details of what plagues its construction, which is more than two years behind schedule.
The Hidalgo County Courthouse is scheduled to resume normal operations Monday.
The Hidalgo County Courthouse closure will enter its third day Friday as crews continue to work on fixing a faulty cooling tower that is preventing the building’s air-conditioning system from working.
