The Hidalgo County Courthouse will remain closed Thursday as officials wait for the arrival of a new cooling unit.
The county announced on Tuesday afternoon that the frame of the courthouse’s cooling tower collapsed that day, preventing the building’s air-conditioning system from working properly.
All trials, hearings and jury duty were put on hold Wednesday, along with all other courthouse operations.
“County officials have determined that it would be best to remain closed during repairs and subsequent testing,” the Wednesday release stated.
In that release, officials made no mention of an expected reopening, only saying that another determination will be made Thursday about when operations there would resume.
