MISSION — After an 18-month hiatus due to repairs to its bleachers and press box, Mission CISD’s Tom Landry Hall of Fame Stadium is set to welcome football fans for the first home game since Dec. 11, 2020.
During that time, Mission CISD’s two high schools — Mission High and Mission Veterans — played home games on the road, using Hidalgo’s Bill Pate Stadium, Mercedes’ Tiger Stadium and Sharyland’s Richard Thompson Stadium, among others. The two crosstown rivals played their 2022 season opener Thursday at Thompson Stadium.
Now, the Eagles are set to play under the lights of Tom Landry Hall of Fame Stadium at 7:30 p.m. Friday against McAllen High.
The Patriots are scheduled to officially return home to Tom Landry Stadium on Friday, Sept. 9, for a non-district contest against San Benito.
“Especially for the seniors, that’s something they always look forward to, is playing their home games on their home turf at Tom Landry Hall of Fame Stadium,” Mission CISD director of public relations and marketing Craig Verley said. “You have a much better fan base that’s able to attend your games when you’re actually able to hold your home games at home. Last year, since all of our home games were on the road, that impacts a number of people that are going to be able to attend your games. They’re looking forward to resuming normal activity and playing for their regular crowds once again.”
