‘Don’t blame the Post’
The political commentary in the Monitor on Thursday by Jay Ambrose, regarding the Washington Post, was very surprising. For a newspaper to print an opinion that the Post went too far with its reporting on the Trump investigation is a head scratcher. It was the Posts’ accurate reporting that helped unfold the Watergate scandal, led by award-winning journalists Bob Woodward, Carl Bernstein and highly regarded Editor Ben Bradley. When a politician lets power go to his head, like Donald Trump has, it takes a lot of journalistic skills to report what actually happened and stand by it as they have in the past. Time will tell what Trump’s future is in the White House but don’t blame the Post for his actions.

Climate change concerns
In his May newsletter for Military Appreciation Month, U.S. Sen. John Cornyn discussed the need for a strong military. If Sen. Cornyn cares about our troops and national security then why isn’t he fighting to address climate change? The Pentagon lists climate change as one of the biggest threats they face.
And high-ranking officials agree. Adm. Frank “Skip” Bowman, Rear Adm. David Titley, Col. Lawrence Wilkerson (Colin Powell’s chief of staff), Secretary of Defense James Mattis, former Secretaries of State George Schultz and James Baker, and countless others are concerned. Our military leaders tell us a rise in sea-level will put U.S. bases underwater. They tell us climate change will multiply threats in vulnerable countries. They tell us clean energy will make us more independent. If Cornyn wants to protect our military, he must listen to them. I urge our Texas senator to join the growing bipartisan Climate Solutions Caucus and start fighting for our safety.
