Letters: Response to letter

In response to Hilda Garza DeShazo on Feb. 17:

1. How would our southern border be secure? You do know that seeking asylum is legal no matter how entry is made; 17,000 Russians came through our southern border, along with many Ukrainians. Are you as upset at these nationalities seeking asylum, or is it just people of color?

2. How can you determine if gas/eggs would be cheaper? My understanding is that product cost is due to supply and demand. Look into this.

3. Inflation is due to corporate greed. It is that simple. Remember when COVIS started: Were you able to get toilet paper? Eggs? Lysol?

Not cheap, huh? Or have you forgotten that?

4. The U.S. is involved in so many skirmishes throughout the world. When did China become such an enemy? If we go to war with China, are you ready to give up all those products from China? Give up your cellphone? Joe Biden’s response to the balloon was appropriate. There are hundreds of balloons, drones and satellites in the sky at any given moment.

5. Vladimir Putin would have started a war regardless of who was president. He wants Ukraine, end of story.

6. How would the U.S. be exporting oil? Why would we? Wouldn’t that mean less for us? Besides, the pipeline wasn’t going to be up and running till 2025.

7. Our military budget is the highest in the world. It is always ready. And who would you say are “our enemies”?

As for “Keep America Great,” I don’t know about you but this country has always been great. And like the saying goes, if you don’t like this country you are always free to leave.

Please stop with the gaslighting.

The Donald took us through the most chaotic and weirdest presidency ever. And some of us, as does Oscar Garza from Palmview, wonder what weirder things might have happened if America had not denied Trump a second term (Letters, Feb. 8).

Lucky for us, Hilda Garza DeShazo from McAllen seems to think she knows and she wishes to share her thoughts with us (Letters, Feb. 17).

1. Our southern border would be secure. Is Hilda insinuating that all those thousands of good hombres we pay to keep our border secure are not doing their job? Or is she implying that Trump’s longest, highest, deepest, most impenetrable border wall would’ve been in place by now and Mexico would have gladly paid for it — again?

2. We would have cheaper gas and eggs. OK, but why not also add cheaper meats, fruits, vegetables, lumber, etc.? After all, going back in time and preventing COVID-19 from causing its disaster would’ve been an easy task for Trump to do.

3. Inflation would not be at its highest. OK, so what would Trump have done? Take out his magic wand and wave it?

4. The U.S. would not be on the brink of a possible war with China. Why? Because Trump wouldn’t have shot down their balloon? He would’ve made it easier for them to spy?

5. Vladimir Putin would not have attacked Ukraine.

6. The U.S. would be exporting oil to the world rather than begging for it.

7. Our military would be ready to defend the U.S. against our enemies.

The last three assertions are just as ludicrous, especially the one that insinuates that our military is not ready to defend us. But hey, Hilda is HidalgoCounty’s GOP secretary; she probably knows something we ordinary folks aren’t privileged to know. Hoo-boy.
