Letters: Issue taken with letter

I just finished reading Mr. Al Garcia’s letter dated Sept. 23. I know you are a liberal newspaper and I know the midterm election is just around the bend, but really? All that ranting and raving by one person against another? All that hate and maliciousness? This is still (for now) a free country and we are all entitled to our opinions.

I’m not particularly fond of President Joe Biden, at all. And I’ll never cast a vote for him as long as I’m alive. But that’s it. That’s the end of my ranting.

Mr. Garcia accuses former President Trump of being an imposter, a fraud, a swindler, a fake, a thief and a pretender. He accuses him of never being a loyalist, nor a patriot, a scholar, an orator, a book lover or book reader.

Mr. Garcia further accuses Mr. Trump of being a womanizer, a philanderer, an adulterer, a scammer, a cunning, corrupt cheater and a swindler. He calls him a charlatan and a human blemish of imperfection, a turncoat wrapped up in our flag.

Mr. Garcia makes the Devil look like Mother Theresa compared to Donald Trump.

About the only thing I like better than asking questions is answering them with facts and the truth, especially when those activities provide clarity, not smoke, mirrors and lies. So I will enjoy answering Mr. Coronado’s letter of Sept 25.

He asks, “How can you possibly look at our current national disaster and have the audacity to blame Trump?” I can because, by lounging comfortably on the great economy Obama gave him and failing to quickly react to COVID, Trump caused the disaster from which we are barely recovering.

He states, “America is burning!” Where, sir? With the exceptions of some nasty forest fires, nothing is burning except, it seems, the Oath Keepers’ and Proud Boys’ hatred for an America not of their choice. Fortunately, the Capitol did not burn, no thanks to your Rad Reps.

He blames Biden for gas prices’ escalation he had nothing to do with and conveniently forgets Nixon’s gas rationing of the ’70s. He incorrectly assumes we somehow have lost our military superiority or will to win. Of course we are still the most powerful country and are regaining the world respect that Trump lost.

He believes it is smart to continue losing American and Afghani lives, dollars, equipment and ground day after day with no victory in sight. Remember, it was Trump’s withdrawal, executed fortunately four months early.

Finally, he accuses Biden of causing inflation — ridiculous! The major reasons we have it are our capitalistic (say Republican CEOs) desire for increased profits, the unions’ desire for increased wages and the government’s inability to regulate either.

So, Mr. Coronado, if you need to place blame, look to the me-me-me, affluent, Karen-infected Americans who believe their demands and party line are more important than America’s survival.
