I would like to suggest a couple of questions that should be addressed/answered by Beto O’Rourke in his upcoming debate with Greg Abbott.
First, would Beto declare or designate Texas as a sanctuary state for illegal immigrants? If so, on what grounds? Or to put it another way, does he believe, as is the case with many Democratic politicians, that the people of Texas and American taxpayers in general have a moral obligation to take in and provide food, shelter, etc., for anybody in the world who is fleeing poverty, violence, etc., in their home country, regardless of cost?
Secondly, what is his stance on the so-called “Green New Deal,” which in my opinion will turn out to be the most expensive science project/experiment in world history and devastate the oil/petroleum industry of Texas?
The people of Texas deserve answers from Beto on the above questions/issues before they cast their vote.

Remember
officials’ acts
I read Mr. Russell Kassman’s letter, “Mayor blasted” (Aug. 4)
with great interest and let me say that I respect the LGBT+ community
with the utmost reverence and they are among friends everywhere
we are.
Whether McAllen Mayor Javier Villalobos displays any amount of reverence for the LGBT+ community is simply up for debate. So why
was it that Mr. Villalobos decided to go out of his way to cancel the
city’s contract with Valley AIDS Council/RGV Pride shortly before the
event was to have taken place here?
Is the mayor bothered by the fact that the people and participants of
RGV Pride help contribute to McAllen’s local economy by shopping at our stores or paying for their meals while that event takes place in our city?
Did he even bother to hold a town hall meeting with the public and ask
for their input on whether our city should keep its contract with those two organizations for the long term?
Did he at least call a meeting with the City Commission to see if they could put that same agenda to a vote once and for all?
RGV Pride was an event where the LGBT+ community would have their
day in the sun by celebrating their lifestyle and to break away from the daily grind of work and school to have the time of their lives for that weekend on a yearly basis.
I guess one could say the mayor no longer wanted to deal with that event anymore. Just drive it on out of here and put an end to their fun when the going gets rough for the city of McAllen, right?
Mr. Villalobos’ claim that he made political inroads as the former
HidalgoCounty GOP chairman will not hide the fact that he pulled off his first anti-LGBT agenda as mayor, albeit without the consent of the citizens of McAllen.
Remember this when the year 2025 comes around, people. Whether you
voted them in or not, keep a close watch on your elected officials. Know your candidates very well the next time they’re up for reelection.
After all, we the people are their employers, not the other way around.

Change state
law officials
Here is a sobering thought:
Changing the president will not make a big difference unless the state attorneys general and the district attorneys of the no jail/no bail states are removed from their positions (and quickly!). Get the word out to your voting friends in other states.
