Glad to be part of U.S.

On March 29 I read Mr. Roger Hyer’s letter (“Joe Biden is no bully”) with great interest. The last paragraph caught my eye in an unusual way.

Mr. Hyer pointed out that the states of New Mexico and Texas were once a part of Mexico. He compares Russia wanting to reclaim Ukraine with Mexico wanting those two U.S. states to still be a part of Mexico today.

I have to ask Mr. Hyer whether he thinks Texas should belong to Mexico once and for all. Would he and the rest of us be able to enjoy our way of life if Texas were part of another country where there are no freedoms

for us to enjoy at all?

We should be very thankful that Texas is a part of this great nation where we get to enjoy our freedoms and express our rights anytime and anywhere we please.

Any questions?

In response to letter dated April 5, Mr. Darrell Williams apparently is still under the spell of the Trumpism conspiracy theories of a stolen election. There were more than 60 court cases and recounts, many by Trump-appointed Republicans, that disproved any election fraud.

Now that a number of insurrectionists have been charged with sedition, these outrageous conspiracy theorists, including elected congressmen at all levels, are still crying about a stolen election. All this in an effort to get the Trump cult vote, knowing full well it’s all a con game to fool the gullible.

With all the many claims of a stolen election being thrown out by the courts or dismissed by many election officials, to still insist that the election was stolen goes to show how Trump’s party has taken control of many with the big lie.

What this belief by conspiracy theorists who call themselves patriots is really quite the opposite. By their actions they are saying that America is not a free country with free elections. They don’t believe that courts in our country are valid. They don’t believe that election officials of both parties are responsible and honest.

The attackers of our Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021, were defying the laws that separate our country from dictatorships, from communism, from fascism. The pride and the example to the whole world of the U.S. is our peaceful transition of power. The civil, respectful handing over of the reins to run the country to the legally elected president is the greatest example of a civilized society.

To insist that this process was “stolen” because a proven liar, a con man, a sore loser, says it over and over and over until his supporters believe him without any proof whatsoever is far from being patriotic. On the contrary, it’s harmful to our democracy.

No war seen

in Ukraine

There is not a war in Ukraine. What we have is an unprovoked attack by a far larger country on a peaceful, smaller country by a perverse and evil autocrat who is not content with stealing the resources of his country and is now looking for another country that he can loot.

Every mother should be disgusted to see or hear about the children who are being murdered by Russian soldiers under orders from that evil autocrat. If you are a prayerful person, please include the Ukrainian people in your prayers.
