SpaceX founder and CEO Elon Musk tweeted Tuesday morning that he will donate $20 million “to Cameron County schools” and $10 million to the city of Brownsville for downtown revitalization. “Details to follow next week,” he tweeted less than two hours after the company’s latest high-altitude flight attempt of a Starship prototype ended with the Starship SN11 prototype being destroyed during landing at SpaceX’s Boca Chica site, which the company has dubbed “Starbase.”
Also Tuesday morning, Musk tweeted out a call for people to relocate to the area, noting that SpaceX’s need for personnel is growing quickly.
“Please consider moving to Starbase or greater Brownsville/South Padre area in Texas & encourage friends to do so!” he tweeted. “SpaceX’s hiring needs for engineers, technicians, builders & essential support personnel of all kinds are growing rapidly.”
In late February SpaceX approached Cameron County with a proposal to incorporate Boca Chica Village adjacent to SpaceX’s Starship production complex as Starbase, Texas.
