If you’re looking for a fun Fourth of July event filled with fireworks, look no further.

Rio Grande Valley cities are once again lighting up the night sky through Independence Day weekend much to the delight of area residents.

Here’s a rundown of all that’s happening near you this weekend, beginning with the earliest scheduled events. You’re welcome.

RIO GRANDE CITY

Kicking off the holiday weekend is the city of Rio Grande City, which is hosting its annual Freedom Fest on Saturday from 7 a.m. to 10:30 p.m.

The festival, which is free to the public, will be held at the Basilio Villarreal Park located at 1473 Stephen Saenz St. in Rio Grande City.

This year’s festival will feature various family friendly events such as a BBQ Cook off, T-ball tournament, a car show, a taco eating contest, a kiddie carnival and of course a firework display which will begin at 10 p.m.

PHARR

The city of Pharr will be hosting its annual Independence Day Festival on Saturday with the event kicking off at 6 p.m. and running until 10 p.m.

The festival will feature food, carnival rides, vendors, a petting zoo and live music along with a firework show at 9 p.m.

The free event will be held at the Allen & William Arnold City/School Park, which is located at 615 W. El Dora Road in Pharr.

HARLINGEN

The city of Harlingen will also be partaking in the patriotic festivity and hosting its annual Freedom Fest on Saturday.

The free event will kick off at 5 p.m. and run until 10 p.m. at Lon C. Hill Park, which is located at 1216 Fair Park Blvd. in Harlingen.

The festival will feature live music, activities for children, a beer garden and of course a firework show.

SAN BENITO

The city of San Benito will host its ResacaFest 2023 on Saturday from 4 to 11 p.m.

The event will be held at the Heavin Resaca Trail at 705 N. Bowie in San Benito.

The annual event, which is free to the public, will feature a firework show beginning at 9:15 p.m.

EDINBURG

The city of Edinburg will also be hosting a firework show at 9:15 p.m. Saturday during its 16th annual Texas Cook’Em: High Steaks in Edinburg event.

The show and event will be held on the grounds of the Ebony Hills Golf Course, located at 300 W. Mark S. Pena Drive in Edinburg.

If you miss the weekend events, no need to worry, there will still be a chance to watch fireworks at the Monday festivals.

PALMVIEW

The city of Palmview will be hosting an Independence Day Celebration on Monday from 6 to 9:30 p.m.

The free event will be held at Palmview City Hall, which is located at 400 W. Veterans Blvd.

Attendees will be able to enjoy various activities such as live music, a patriotic costume contest, a watermelon eating contest, best apple pie contest, games, a petting zoo and try foods from various vendors.

The fireworks show will begin at 9:15 p.m.

SAN JUAN

The city of San Juan will be hosting its annual Independence Day Celebration on Monday from 4 to 11 p.m.

The event which will be free to the public will be held at the San Juan Municipal Park at 506 U.S. Highway 83, in San Juan.

Attendees will be able to enjoy water slides, live music and free barbecue spots to cook at their own leisure. The event will also feature kids rides, and a fireworks show.

ALAMO

The city of Alamo will be hosting its annual Watermelon Festival & 4th of July Freedom Bash on Monday from 5 to 10 p.m.

The event will be free to the public and held at the Alamo Sports Complex at 898 S. 7th St. in Alamo.

The event will feature live music, a carnival, food vendors, a beer garden, a BBQ cookoff and arts and crafts vendors.

The firework show will begin at 10 p.m.

McALLEN

The city of McAllen is holding its 95th annual Independence Day Festivities on the Fourth of July with a 7 a.m. Independence Run at Archer Park, located at 101 N. Main St.; an 8 a.m. Patriotic Program at the same location and then the Main Street Parade from Houston to Beech avenues at 9 a.m.

The Freedom Festival is slated from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. as well as the Aquatica Extravaganza from 1 to 4 p.m. at the McAllen Municipal Pool. The evening will be capped with the annual Concert in the Sky from 6 to 10 p.m. at the municipal park, located at 1921 N. Bicentennial Blvd., where the fireworks show is slated for 9 p.m.

HIDALGO

The annual Show in the Sky Independence Day Festival is slated for Tuesday, the Fourth of July, at the Payne Arena, located at 2600 N. 10th St. in Hidalgo.

There will be live entertainment as well as children’s rides, arts and crafts vendors and, of course, plenty of food and drinks at the free event. There will also be a lucha libre show and a fireworks display.

The free event will be held from 5 to 11 p.m. with the entertainment scheduled for 5 p.m., the lucha libra showdown from 6 to 8 p.m., and the fireworks display will start at 10 p.m.

SOUTH PADRE ISLAND

The city of South Padre Island will hold its 4th of July fireworks display at the entertainment district at 9:15 p.m.
