The city of Edinburg has named Ubaldo Perez as its interim fire chief.
The appointment follows the death of longtime Edinburg Fire Chief Shawn Snider.
Perez, who is a deputy chief, is a dedicated veteran of the department and brings a wealth of experience and leadership to his new role.
“It is with great honor and humility that I accept this appointment,” Perez said in a press release. “I am committed to upholding the legacy of Chief Snider and leading the Edinburg Fire Department with the utmost professionalism, dedication and compassion.”
According to the release, Perez joined the Edinburg Volunteer Fire Department in May 1990 and rose through the ranks from firefighter to captain to volunteer assistant chief.
Perez was promoted to deputy chief in charge of training on Jan. 22, 2001.
He brings over three decades of experience and has assumed the responsibilities of interim fire chief effective immediately.
As interim fire chief, Perez oversees the daily operations of the fire department and will work closely with his team to maintain the highest standards of fire prevention, emergency response and community education.
In addition, Perez will also serve as the city’s emergency management coordinator.
