The city of McAllen this week announced two lengthy lane reductions that will impact motorists through the summer and into January of next year.

The shorter lane reduction will be at 10th Street and Business 83, causing a reduction in the northbound outer lane along 10th Street as the city moves forward with roadway improvements.

The roadway will be reduced to one lane in the northbound direction along 10th Street from May 8 until Aug. 4.

The second lane reduction will be along Northgate Lane and 2nd Street for continued drainage improvement projects.

The roadway will be closed to traffic in phases along Northgate Lane between 10th Street and along 2nd Street between Hobbs Road, south to the drainage ditch.

This starts on Monday and continues through Jan. 7, 2024.

“Motorists are urged to exercise extreme caution and patience when traveling along in the area,” news releases stated. “Motorists should expect some delays and congestion.”

Residents can find out about the status of a project by visiting the city of McAllen Engineering Department’s website.
