A 34-year-old man who tried to escape a drug house through an attic vent where federal authorities later found more than 5,400 pounds of marijuana has pleaded guilty.

U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of Texas Alamdar S. Hamdani announced in a news release Monday that Adan Ontiveros Jr. pleaded guilty to conspiring to possess with the intent to distribute 5,460 pounds of marijuana.

Law enforcement was conducting surveillance at the residence in Roma on July 16, 2020, when they saw Ontiveros attempting to discreetly exit the drug house.

“He was trying to escape via an attic vent,” the release stated. “However, authorities quickly took him into custody.”

After executing a search warrant, authorities found hundreds of bundles of marijuana which they say has a value of more than $33 million.
