Police have arrested an Edcouch teen for killing his infant son.

The 18-year-old man, whose identity has yet to be released, is being charged with one count of capital murder, according to a news release from the city of Edinburg.

Police allege the man strangled his one-year-old son to death Monday night.

“(A)t approximately 9:43 p.m., Edinburg Police Officers responded to the 500 block of East Samano Street in reference to an unresponsive one-year-old baby boy,” the news release states.

Paramedics and firefighters also responded to the scene and attempted to revive the infant before transporting him to a local hospital.

The baby, who authorities say showed signs of trauma, was pronounced dead at Edinburg Regional Children’s Hospital.

Police interviewed everyone who had been inside the home at the time of the baby’s injuries and discovered inconsistencies in their stories.

“The father of the child … ultimately confessed to Edinburg PD detectives that he strangled his child,” the news release further states.

The baby’s mother was not present at the time the incident was reported.

Police continue to investigate the child’s death.

The baby’s father is expected to appear before a judge on Wednesday.
