Fiery trailer crash that claimed one life in Brownsville under probe

Troopers with the Texas Department of Public Safety are investigating a single-vehicle crash in Brownsville that left one person dead on Monday.

The crash occurred around 7:02 p.m. on the northbound Toll Road 550 in Brownsville after a tractor semi-trailer carrying “hazardous-flammable material” was traveling at an unsafe speed, according to a news release.

The driver of the truck lost control of the vehicle causing it to strike a concrete barrier and roll on its side. Due to the vehicle carrying flammable material, the truck was engulfed in flames, according to the release.

The driver of the vehicle died at the scene due to his injuries.

The fatal crash is still currently under investigation. According to a release by the Texas Department of Transportation the State Highway 550 will remain closed westbound between Baker Lane and IH-69E for the next several hours.
