New urgent care clinic opens in Mercedes

A new urgent care clinic has opened in Mercedes, providing healthcare services to Mid-Valley residents on evenings and weekends.

Mid Valley Urgent Care is available to see patients of all ages from 5 to 11 p.m. on Monday through Friday, and from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays.

The new clinic is located in a 13,800-square-foot building at 2810 W. Expressway 83, across the street from the South Texas High School for Health Professions and the Science Academy of South Texas.

“Mid Valley Urgent Care sees patients of all ages, including adults, seniors, teens, children, and infants,” a news release stated. “The clinic takes care of urgent, but not emergency, injuries and illnesses — while also providing management of chronic diseases such as diabetes and high blood pressure, and preventive health.”

The clinic offers a variety of services for non-emergency conditions, including small cuts and minor lacerations, sprains and strains, joint pain, back or muscle pain, abdominal pain, mild or moderate asthma, COPD, bronchitis, upper respiratory infection, urinary tract infections, painful urination, vomiting or diarrhea, fever without a rash, sore throat , cough, and congestion.

Rudy Valdes, the clinic’s medical director, is board certified in emergency medicine and internal medicine. He has served as an emergency room physician at Knapp Medical Center in Weslaco, Dallas Medical Center, Dallas Regional Medical Center, and at several hospitals in Florida.

The clinic is accepting new patients and most insurance plans. Walk-in patients as well as patients with appointments are welcomed by the clinic.
