Edinburg man accused of fatal crash where woman was pinned indicted

Fidencio Jimenez Gonzalez

An Edinburg man is scheduled to be arraigned next week for the death of a woman who was pinned between two vehicles after he rear-ended one when returning from Los Amigos Bar, according to a probable cause affidavit.

Fidencio Jimenez Gonzalez, 46, was charged with an accident involving death following the fatal crash that killed Norma Lydia Camarillo, 49, on May 13, 2022.

A grand jury indicted him on March 30.

According to the affidavit, a Texas Department of Public Safety trooper was dispatched to the crash on FM 907 north of FM 1925 in Edinburg that day at around 2:15 a.m.

Upon arrival, the trooper observed a Chevrolet Tahoe and a black Dodge Charger and encountered Diana Delgado De Leon, who stated that Camarillo and a man named Carlos Daniel Perez-Rodriguez were standing between a Dodge Nitro and the Tahoe.

“The Dodge Charger struck the Chevrolet Tahoe from behind causing the Chevrolet Tahoe to push forward into the Dodge Nitro,” the affidavit stated. “Due to the impact, Camarillo was pinned between both vehicles causing serious bodily injuries to Camarillo.”

The driver of the Charger fled on foot, the affidavit said.

Perez-Rodriguez placed Camarillo in the Nitro claiming to get medical help but, according to the affidavit, he abandoned the Nitro less than two miles away on Rogers Road west of FM 907.

“Law enforcement later found Camarillo deceased in the Dodge Nitro,” the affidavit said.

A search of the Charger revealed paperwork containing Gonzalez and Irene Santoy’s identification.

Investigators contacted Santoy who stated she had spoken to Gonzalez who told her he had been in a car crash.

Delgado told the trooper that she, Camarillo and Perez-Rodriguez were at Los Amigos Bar, located on 22900 Brushline Rd., before the crash occurred.

She added that Gonzalez was at the same bar prior to the crash and identified him by photo.

Gonzalez was not booked into the Hidalgo County Adult Detention Center until Sept.1, 2022. He remains in custody.
