HARLINGEN — The Associate Degree in Nursing program at Texas State Technical College’s Harlingen campus will host an open house from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Friday, April 14, at the TSTC Nursing Education Building at the corner of North Loop 499 and Oak Street.
Prospective students who are interested in beginning the Associate Degree in Nursing program next fall are encouraged to attend.
“The event will highlight an overview of the program, prerequisites, how to apply, program cost, methods of instruction, schedules for labs and clinicals, and documents that are required for the application,” said Adrienne Reyes, TSTC’s Nursing program director. “It’s an ideal opportunity for licensed vocational nurses to further their education and become a registered nurse. Our program is hybrid, which means there will be in-person classes and students can continue to work part time.”
Anna San Pedro, associate provost for TSTC’s Harlingen campus, said earning an Associate Degree in Nursing can lead to vast career opportunities in the medical field.
“The open house is important for prospective students and vocational nurses to learn more about the career path,” she said. “Students who successfully complete the ADN program and pass the National Council Licensure Examination will become licensed registered nurses. The career path opens up many potential opportunities in diverse patient care specializations, including a gateway to other advanced allied health professions.”
Reyes said the program’s classes help prepare students for real-world scenarios.
“The labs are face-to-face and intended to enhance learning and build the students’ confidence,” she said. “Our high-fidelity medical manikins are designed to talk, breathe and cry, which helps students gain judgment that can be used in a clinical setting.”
TSTC offers an Associate of Applied Science degree in Nursing at its Harlingen and Sweetwater campuses. A Vocational Nursing certificate of completion program is offered at the Breckenridge, Harlingen and Sweetwater campuses.
