The Texas Department of Public Safety is currently investigating a fatal two-vehicle crash that occurred Thursday morning in Santa Maria.
According to a news release, the crash occurred at about 6:25 a.m. on 281 Military Road and La Avenida Iglesia.
The preliminary investigation revealed that a white Ford F-150, which was occupied by two males, was traveling westbound on Military Road when a Kenworth tractor-trailer failed to yield the right-of-way stop intersection from La Avenida Iglesia into 281 Military Road.
The Ford F-150 collided into the trailer the Kenworth truck was hauling.
Harlingen resident Pedro Omar Gutierrez, 44, who was the driver of the Ford truck, sustained major injuries and died at the scene.
Gutierrez’s passenger was transported to a local hospital, though the release didn’t reveal the status of his condition.
The driver of the Kenworth truck didn’t sustain any injuries.
DPS Troopers continue their investigation into the fatal crash.
