Mission’s health director reappointed to sanitary advisory committee

Steven Kotsatos

The city of Mission’s health director was reappointed on Friday to serve on the Registered Sanitarian Advisory Committee of the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation, or TLDR.

Steven Kotsatos will serve on the committee until Feb. 1, 2029.

This committee provides industry expertise and technical knowledge to the TLDR regarding the Registered Sanitarian program, which regulates and registers sanitarians in Texas.

“I am honored and humbled to have been selected to serve on the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation Sanitarian Advisory Committee,” Kotsatos said in a press release. “This privilege represents an unparalleled opportunity to advocate for sanitarian health professionals and make recommendations to enhance the workforce to protect public health.

“I look forward to continuing serving my constituents.”

Registered sanitarians are public health professionals who protect the public’s health, safety and general welfare from poor environmental factors using specific education, specialized training and field experience.

Kotsatos recently joined the city of Mission in March bringing 22 years of government experience along with 11 years of environmental health service experience at the state and municipal levels, according to the release.

Mission City Manager Randy Perez expressed pride following Kotsatos reappointment to the committee.

“We are glad to have such an experienced, knowledgeable individual join the team,” Perez said in the press release. “He has extensive knowledge of code enforcement, environmental issues, public health, and restaurant food safety.”
