Complaint: Harlingen man cuts off dog’s leg, kills it

Adrian Estrada

A 20-year-old Harlingen man accused of stabbing and killing a dog and cutting off one of its legs will formally be arraigned on the charge in April, state court documents reflect.

A Cameron County grand jury earlier this month indicted Adrian Estrada on one count of cruelty to non-livestock animal/kill poison, state court documents reflect.

According to the indictment, Estrada recklessly tortured a brown and white dog by stabbing the dog with a knife and “cutting off a leg from the dog while it was still moving.”

The incident reportedly happened Aug. 25, 2022. No other information was available.

State court documents indicate Estrada will appear April 5 before 107th state District Court Judge Benjamin Euresti Jr. to be formally arraigned on the charge.

According to state court documents, Estrada has other felony charges pending against him including aggravated robbery, burglary of habitation, assault on a public servant and aggravated assault of a family member with a weapon.

An indictment on the aggravated assault of a family member states that on May 28, 2021, Estrada caused serious bodily injury against a family member by “beating him about the face with a handgun.”

Cameron County jail records show Estrada remains incarcerated at a facility on bonds totaling $112,000.
