UTRGV grad fairs slated: Events aimed at recruiting students

It’s our responsibility to support and foster their growth through our graduate programs, and the grad fair provides an excellent opportunity to showcase the opportunities we offer. We invite everyone considering a master’s or doctoral program to join us at the graduate fair and learn about all the possibilities.

The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley Graduate College will host its graduate fairs for the first time since 2018, with events scheduled this month in Brownsville and Edinburg.

The purpose is to recruit prospective students to pursue graduate degrees at UTRGV.

The fairs provide those students a chance to meet top faculty in person and get a thorough understanding of the university’s graduate programs and the application process.

Two dates are scheduled: March 9 in Edinburg from 4 to 7 p.m. at University Recreation (EUREC), 1201 W. University Dr., and March 23 in Brownsville from 4 to 7 p.m. at the PlainsCapital Bank El Gran Salon (BSTUN 2.36), 1 W. University Blvd.

UTRGV offers more than 50 online, accelerated-online, or campus-based graduate programs.

Attendees will have the chance to win a $500 scholarship, and the first 300 in the door will receive a commemorative UTRGV Graduate College T-shirt.

Stephanie Ozuna Larralde, UTRGV director of Graduate Recruitment and Outreach, said the university’s graduate students “go on to become leaders, innovators and change-makers in their respective fields.”

“It’s our responsibility to support and foster their growth through our graduate programs, and the grad fair provides an excellent opportunity to showcase the opportunities we offer,” she said. “We invite everyone considering a master’s or doctoral program to join us at the graduate fair and learn about all the possibilities.”

Laura Jewett, UTRGV professor and coordinator of the university’s Curriculum and Instruction doctoral program, described the fairs as a wonderful opportunity for students and faculty alike.

“It’s great to be able to talk to students one-on-one, and for us to feel their excitement and for them to feel our excitement,” she said. “It’s such great synergy that you can’t get online. No social media can replicate the excitement and synergy when you’re talking to students one-on-one about how graduate programs can help power-boost their processional and academic goals.”
