Another cold front will push through the Rio Grande Valley Thursday morning, bringing strong northerly winds, cooler daytime temperatures and critical fire weather conditions.

The cold front will drop temperatures between 10 to 20 degrees and should clear the entire Valley by 10 a.m. Thursday, the National Weather Service in Brownsville/Rio Grande Valley reports.

The highs on Thursday will be between 67 and 72 degrees and the overnight lows between 40 to 46 degrees.

The highs on Friday will be between 57 to 62 degrees, and the overnight lows will be between 38 to 44 degrees.

The highs on Saturday will be between 64 to 70 degrees.

The NWS reports the concern is the low humidity and gusty winds the cold front will bring.

“When combined with cured fuels and moderate to severe drought conditions, this could lead to the rapid spread of wildfires. Conditions will improve rapidly after sunset Thursday with diminishing winds,” the NWS stated.

A Fire Weather Watch will be in effect from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Thursday.

The NWS reports any fires that develop will likely spread rapidly and that outdoor burning is not recommended.

The cold front will also produce frequent gale-force gusts over the offshore waters starting Thursday and persisting through Friday, the NWS reports.

A Gale Watch has been issued for the offshore Gulf Waters (20-60 nm) from Thursday afternoon through Thursday night.
