The Texas Department of Public Safety is investigating a two-vehicle fatal collision that left a 50-year-old man dead at the scene Monday.

Edinburg resident Daniel Luna died after succumbing to his injuries, DPS said in a news release.

The crash occurred in San Carlos at about 5:48 p.m. Monday at the intersection of State Highway 107 and Sunflower Road.

Investigators said that a 1997 tan Jeep Grand Cherokee driven by Luna, who had two other passengers with him, was traveling eastbound on 107 on the inside lane and passed another vehicle on the turnaround at the Sunflower Road intersection.

As this was happening, a 2008 gray Chevrolet Silverado occupied by two males traveling westbound on 107’s inside lane was approaching the same turnaround.

“The driver of the Jeep failed to yield the right of way, turning left at a yield sign, and collided with the Chevrolet,” the release said.

Luna died at the scene.

One passenger was taken to a local hospital for minor injuries while the other was transported via air evac due to being in critical condition.

Police said the driver and passenger of the Silverado weren’t taken to the hospital.

DPS troopers will continue to investigate the fatal crash.
