Men wanted in Florida shooting arrested in Brownsville

Josue Clavel and Damaso Bravo

An extradition hearing is scheduled for Friday for two men arrested Monday in Brownsville in connection with an Oct. 9 shooting in Tampa Bay Florida that left one man dead and others injured.

Josue Clavel, 22, and Damaso Bravo, 32, are being held in a Cameron County jail facility on warrants issued out of Hillsborough County Florida, jail records indicate.

According to the warrants, Clavel is wanted for murder, attempted murder with a firearm, and pre-mediated murder with a firearm.

Bravo is wanted for three counts of aggravated battery bodily harm with a deadly weapon/firearm.

The men were arraigned Tuesday on the charges and were given no bond, said Cameron County District Attorney Luis V. Saenz.

If the men waived their Friday extradition hearing, they will immediately be sent back to Florida.

With the help of the U.S. Marshal’s Office Fugitive Task Force, Clavel and Bravo were located and apprehended on Monday, hiding at a hotel in Brownsville along with their girlfriends, the Tampa Bay Police Department said in a press release.

The group had $20,000 in cash on them at the time of the arrest.

Alfredo Perez, deputy U.S. Marshal for the Southern District of Texas in Houston, said Florida authorities requested assistance from the fugitive task force in tracking down Clavel and Bravo, who are members of the Latin Kings gang.

Because neither man has any relatives in Texas, authorities believe they made their way to South Texas in an attempt to cross into Mexico to prevent being apprehended.

“Some fugitives run, some hide in closets and under beds,” Perez said. “Some even try to run to other countries only to end up catching their breath in the cage of patrol car on the way to a local jail.”

The press release states that in the early morning hours of Oct. 9, Clavel and Bravo were involved in a physical altercation with a group of individuals inside the LIT Cigar and Martini Lounge located at 908 N. Franklin St.

Once outside the nightclub, a gun was retrieved from a nearby vehicle, and Clavel and Bravo fired multiple shots, striking seven people, and killing one victim, a 30-year-old man visiting the area from California for a wedding, the press release read.
