Walgreens and Lexie Hearing are making it easier to get a hearing aid without needing a prescription.

The two announced Thursday that starting Oct. 17, Lexie Hearing aids can be purchased at Walgreens stores nationwide for $799.

HealthyHearing.com, reports the average cost of an adult hearing aid is about to $2,000 to $3,000.

“Walgreens is committed to breaking down barriers to offer convenient access to affordable health and wellness solutions,” said Luke Rauch, senior vice president and chief merchandising officer, Walgreens, in a press release. “Together with Lexie Hearing, we are making it easy for customers nationwide to purchase high-quality hearing aids directly from their neighborhood Walgreens, both online and in-store.”

Both groups said consumers can also purchase them online through Walgreens Find Care for $39 per month for 24 months. Each purchase includes a pair of hearing aids, all the batteries and accessories that are needed to set up the hearing aids, along with a 45-day money back guarantee.

“We believe hearing health should be available to all people, not only those who can afford it,” said Nic Klopper, CEO and founder of Lexie Hearing, also in a press release. “That’s why we’re excited to work with Walgreens to make affordable, audiologist-quality hearing aids more accessible to communities across the country.”

According to the National Institute on Deafness and other Communication Disorders, adults aged 70 and over with hearing loss could benefit from using a hearing aid but fewer than 30% ever use them. In addition, even fewer people aged 20 to 69 who could benefit from wearing hearing aid have ever used them.

Hearing loss can be caused by damage to the inner ear, gradual buildup of earwax, ear infection, abnormal growth or tumors, and a ruptured eardrum, according to the Mayo Clinic.

Factors that may lead to hearing loss include aging, some medications, some illnesses, loud noise, heredity, occupational noises, and recreational noises, Mayo Clinic reports.

According to Lexie Hearing, customers can expect a complete hearing solution, including a professional-quality hearing check, hearing aids customized to their unique hearing profile, and access to hearing experts through video or voice calls.
