Brownsville police arrested a man who allegedly broke into a woman’s residence to sexually assault her on Sunday, according to a press release.

Juan Alvarado, 24, was taken into custody by the Brownsville Police Department Patrol Division at about 3:50 a.m. at the 100 block of Terrace Drive on a charge of burglary of habitation with intent to commit sexual assault.

According to police, Alvarado allegedly broke into the woman’s residence by removing the screen and opening the window into the living room then went to the victim’s bedroom.

“Alvarado then started to grab the victim and tried to pull her clothes off,” the release said. “The victim started screaming and Alvarado ran out of the residence through the same window he made entry.”

When police arrived at the scene, they found Alvarado in the backyard of the residence and was taken into custody, then subsequently transported to Brownsville City Jail.

Alvarado was arraigned the same day and remains in jail on a $50,000 bond, according to the release.
