McAllen police arrest suspect in Sunday stabbing

The McAllen Police Department arrested and charged a man accused of stabbing another person Sunday morning.

In a news release issued Tuesday, police said officers arrested Angel Luis Montanez on charges of aggravated assault and unauthorized use of a motor vehicle.

He made a first appearance at the McAllen Municipal Court on Tuesday where he received a total of $280,000 in bonds on the charges.

Police said Monday they were looking for Montanez, who they accuse of stabbing a person near the 1500 block of Mobile Avenue at about 9:55 a.m. Sunday. They initially believed Montanez had fled to El Control, Mexico.

The stabbing victim was taken to a local hospital, but police did not disclose their medical condition.

No other details about the stabbing have been released.
