EDINBURG — The city’s major crimes unit is at the scene of an incident near Memorial Middle School.

Parents began arriving at the school, located near North Doolittle and Monte Cristo roads, sometime before 1:30 p.m. Tuesday and police allowed them through.

Some roads have been closed off by Edinburg police.

Two police units are parked near a white sports utility vehicle that is parked in the middle of the road.

Details about the situation are not immediately available.

The Monitor has reached out to a spokesperson for the school district and a news conference will be held soon.

Edinburg police said Tuesday afternoon that the location of the incident is the 2800 block of East Rodgers Road, and described the situation as an “isolated incident” in which no danger was posed to the school or surrounding area.

In a news release, Edinburg CISD said the incident prompted a school lockdown.

“Memorial Middle School was placed on lockdown at Noon due to a suspicious person in a vehicle in a nearby neighborhood,” the school district said in a release. “The suspect was never on school grounds. The scene is secure and the lockdown is lifted. Students were not in danger and are safe. The lockdown has been lifted.”
