A McAllen man entered a guilty plea Wednesday for the death of a woman he crashed into while he was drunk on Halloween in 2020, court records indicate.
Jorge Jesus Hernandez Gonzalez, 24, was convicted of intoxicated manslaughter and sentenced to 12 years in prison as part of a plea deal that same day, court documents show.
According to a criminal complaint, Gonzalez was traveling southbound on the inside lane at the 3200 block of South Ware Road in his red Chevrolet Silverado while the victim, Guadalupe Macias, was traveling northbound in a gray Chevy Equinox.
Gonzalez veered off his lane into oncoming traffic when he crashed head on into Macias, the complaint said.
McAllen officers responded at about 5:53 a.m. and observed Gonzalez to be displaying signs of intoxication such as blood shot eyes and a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage, according to the complaint.
Macias was pronounced dead less than an hour later as a result of the injuries she sustained from the crash.
Hernandez, who was in the country under the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals, or DACA, will likely be deported after he finishes serving his sentence.
