A Georgia man accused of murdering the mother of his own child has been arrested by U.S. Marshals in McAllen.

Roberto Andablo Gaona, 31, is charged with murder, aggravated assault, and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime, the Georgia Bureau of Investigations (GBI) said in a news release.

The Brooks County Sheriff’s Office in Georgia requested the GBI’s help at 11:38 a.m. Sunday after they found the body of Yessica Baena Torres, 22, in a vehicle near the intersection of Troupeville and Studstill roads.

The GBI release identified Torres as the mother of Gaona’s infant child.

The manner in which Torres was killed remains unclear. The GBI said in its news release early this week that an autopsy would be conducted.

GBI agents and Brooks County investigators issued an arrest warrant for Gaona who was later found and arrested in McAllen.

The circumstances surrounding Gaona’s arrest were unclear as of press time.

He was booked Wednesday at the McAllen Police Department and will be extradited to Georgia to face charges.
