Edinburg police extradite man accused of sexually assaulting child

A 22-year-old man was held on a $150,000 bond on a charge of continuous sexual abuse of a child after the Edinburg Police Department extradited him back to Hidalgo County.

Christopher Marroquin made his first appearance Tuesday afternoon in front of Edinburg Municipal Judge Terry Palacios.

“The arrest and extradition was made possible with the assistance of the Camden County Sheriff’s Office in Georgia,” police said in a news release Tuesday. “Deputies detained Marroquin on an active arrest warrant that was issued by the Edinburg Police Department back in January.”

Edinburg police investigators took custody of Marroquin on Monday.

“These Edinburg officers escorted Marroquin on a flight from Jacksonville, Florida back to the Rio Grande Valley,” the release stated.

Camden County is approximately 50 miles north of Jacksonville, Florida.

Police did not release any other details about the allegations.
