The Pharr Police Department was dispatched to a home about 4:45 p.m. Tuesday to document an incident in which a U.S. Marshal shot and killed a dog while executing a search warrant.

The U.S. Marshals went to the residence, which wasn’t identified by police, to execute a felony arrest warrant.

“When the Agents entered the fenced property of the residence where the wanted individual was suspected to be, they encountered three large dogs that were approaching them aggressively. One of the Agents attempted to scare the dogs off but they continued towards him and the Agent was forced to discharge his firearm at one of the dogs to prevent serious injury,” police said in a news release.

The Marshals did arrest the wanted individual and called Pharr police to document the incident.

Police declined to identify the suspect.
