New Bicentennial Boulevard extension causes traffic changes

Motorists in McAllen can expect new changes on Friday stemming from the city’s extension of Bicentennial Boulevard, according to the city’s traffic division.

Starting on Friday, Bicentennial Boulevard will be open from Trenton Road to Auburn Avenue.

The traffic changes are happening at the intersection of Trenton Road and Bicentennial Boulevard.

Eastbound drivers on Trenton Road will now have a new left turn signal that will take them north on Bicentennial Boulevard.

Northbound drivers on Bicentennial Road will also see a change. One of two left turn lanes was transformed into a through lane, so there will only be one left turn lane for drivers heading west on Trenton.

“The outermost lane of the intersection has a combination movement, which means motorists can go through the intersection to go north or make a right turn east.

New street signs have been installed for vehicular and pedestrian traffic at the intersection.
