Hidalgo County’s daily report of COVID-19 case activity dropped significantly from day-to-day, to 152 new cases announced in a news release Wednesday morning compared to the 600 that were confirmed Tuesday.
The new cases bring the tally up to 71,744 in the county with 48,497 of those being confirmed, 22,230 probable and 1,017 suspected.
There were also no deaths reported Wednesday as the coronavirus death toll in the county remains at 2,558.
Hospitalizations also appeared to have declined substantially from 328 reported Tuesday to 137 on Wednesday.
According to the county’s report, 386 more people have been released from isolation for a total of 67,244 since the start of the pandemic; and a total of 393,401 tests have been administered with 320,966 coming back negative.
It should be noted that county testing efforts have on-hold this week due to the freeze-related closures experienced nearly county-wide.
