Nine more deaths related to COVID-19 were confirmed in Hidalgo County on Tuesday, bringing the death toll to 2,558.
The county also reported 600 new cases of the virus in a news release. The total cases in the county now stand at 71,592.
Of the new cases, 425 are confirmed, 171 probable and four suspected.
Also on Tuesday, 606 people were released from isolation due to the virus, adding to the total of recoveries in the county, 66,858.
There now are 2,176 active cases in the county.
Additionally, there currently are 328 people fighting the virus in local hospitals, of which 148 are in intensive care units.
New case data comes at a time when the vaccination effort has grinded to a halt due to weather-related power outages and conditions prompting county and hospital systems to postpone clinics that were planned through Thursday.
Officials have said that individuals with appointments will be contacted for rescheduling.
Vaccine providers who were forced to postpone their clinics are DHR Health and Hidalgo County. In the former’s case, power and water outages are largely to blame for the delay in vaccinating, according to a news release issued on social media Tuesday.
It’s unclear if other providers’ vaccination plans have also been impacted.
