With Easter on the horizon, several cities and county agencies are holding egg hunts and pet friendly events across the Rio Grande Valley starting this weekend.

Easter lands on Sunday, April 9, this year.

Make sure you have the kids hyped, the egg baskets ready and check out where the nearest Easter event for you is happening: 

BROWNSVILLE:

There will be various egg hunts and an opportunity to take pet photos with the Easter Bunny in Brownsville. 

First, the city’s Parks and Recreation Department will be holding a pet friendly Easter egg hunt at Catherine Stillman Dog Park on Sunday, April 2. 

The event will run at the park, located at 416 FM 511, from 5 to 7 p.m. 

Following the treat-filled egg hunt for the doggies, attendees and their pets will have a photo opportunity with the Easter Bunny.

Here are the guidelines for people interested in attending with their pets: 

>> Dogs participating in the event must be at least four months old; 

>> Dogs must be on a non-retractable leash and under their human’s control at all times;

>> Dogs must have current tags;

>> You may sign up two dogs per human;

>> And lastly, the city urges you to use good judgment with your pet. Do not bring dogs who aren’t comfortable with other dogs, people or loud settings.

In preparation for the event this weekend, the dog park will be closed for maintenance and preparation on Friday and Saturday. If you need alternative dog friendly locations during the days of the park’s closure, the city stressed that all of Brownsville’s parks and trails are pet friendly. The city asks that pets are kept on their leashes, and if they make a mess, to pick up after them.

Unable to attend the pet friendly egg hunt? No worries, the city will be holding its Easter Egg Hunt Eggstravaganza on Thursday, April 6.

The event will take place at the Brownsville Sports Park, located at 1000 Sports Park Boulevard, softball complex from 6 to 8 p.m. 

The softball fields will be marked for each age division. The age groups for the event will include: 

>> 1-3;

>> 4-6;

>> 7-9;

>> and special needs.

Children will have a head start at the event and parents must wait until they are signaled. 

The egg hunt will begin at 7 p.m. and once it begins, no late entries will be permitted to participate. The city urges those planning to attend to arrive early and be ready. 

The event will be free for the entire family.

COMBES: 

Cameron County Sheriff Eric Garza is sponsoring the Easter Egg Hunt at the Combes Community Park on Saturday, April 1.

The event at the park, located at 21646 Hand Rd., will run from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. 

The sheriff’s said they will be giving out hot dogs, bolis and drinks until supplies last, and to not forget your egg baskets.

EDINBURG:

The city of Edinburg will be hosting its Easter egg hunt at Edinburg Municipal Park on Saturday, April 1, adding that it will “be an eggs-ellent time,” according to a release. 

The event at the park, located at 714 S Raul Longoria Rd., will run from 10 a.m. to noon.

The family friendly event is free and open to the public. 

There will be multiple Easter egg hunts divided by age divisions: 

>> The egg hunt for ages 3 and under and special needs will take place at Field 1 at 10 a.m.;

>> The egg hunt for ages 4 and 5 year olds will take place at Field 4 at 10:15 a.m.;

>> The egg hunt for 6 year olds will take place at Field 3 at 10:25 a.m.;

>> The egg hunt for 7 year olds will take place at Field 1 at 10:35 a.m.;

>> The egg hunt for 8 year olds will take place at Field 4 at 10:45 a.m.;

>> The egg hunt for ages 9 to12 will take place at Field 5 at 10:55 a.m.;

>> The egg hunt for ages 13 and 14 year olds will take place at Field 6 at 11:05 a.m.

People at the event will also have an opportunity to win 40 baskets that will be handed out as part of the festivities. One lucky winner will have the chance to find the Golden Egg, which will win them a one-week free rental of a video arcade game cabinet. 

Additionally, there will be plenty of photo opportunities for attendees. 

LOS FRESNOS:

The event at the park, located at 900 North Arroyo Blvd., will run from 11:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. 

The sheriff’s said they will be giving out hot dogs, bolis and drinks until supplies last, and to not forget your egg baskets.

PORT ISABEL:
