A wind advisory has been issued for inland and coastal Willacy and Cameron counties until 6 p.m. today.

Southwest winds of 20 to 30 mph, with gusts of up to 45 mph are anticipated, according to the National Weather Service in Brownsville/Rio Grande Valley.

Gusty winds could blow around unsecured objects, the NWS reports. Tree limbs could be blown down and a few power outages may result.

The NWS urges residents to use extra caution when driving, especially if operating a high profile vehicle. Residents should also secure outdoor objects.

High winds in the Brownsville area may be responsible for at least two outages affecting 3,000 customers, Brownsville Public Utilities Board reports.

According to BPUB, one of the outages is affecting customer near Padre Island Highway and Price Road. The second outage is affecting customers near Ruben M. Torres Sr. Boulevard and North Central Avenue.

“Windy conditions increase the likelihood of outages,” BPUB reports.
