Another five individuals died due to complications related to COVID-19 while county officials reported 205 confirmed cases on Friday.
The majority of the deaths were from Hidalgo County where four residents died due to COVID-19, according to a news release issued by the county, and another 177 people tested positive.
The four residents include a San Juan man in his 50s, an Alamo man in his 60s, a Pharr woman in her 60s, and an Edinburg man more than 70s years old.
Their deaths raise the total number COVID fatalities in Hidalgo County to 2,792.
Of the 177 new cases, 149 were confirmed cases, 27 were probable, and one was a suspected case.
So far, there have been a total of 57,128 confirmed cases, 27,428 probable cases, and 1,520 suspected cases in the county since the start of the pandemic. Currently, 1,605 cases are considered active.
In hospitals throughout the county, there are 111 individuals hospitalized due to COVID-19 while 47 of those patients are being treated in an intensive care unit.
Cameron County health officials reported one COVID-19 related death and 52 confirmed cases on Friday for a total of 1,593 deaths and a total of 39,095 cases since the start of the pandemic.
Out of the total cases, 2,810 are considered active.
In Starr County, there were four new confirmed cases and four new probable cases, according to data gathered by the Texas Department of State Health Services.
Since the start of the pandemic, there have been 7,671 confirmed cases and 1,678 probable cases. Of those, 136 cases are considered active.
